Apple rejects Sony Reader app from the App Store. Kindle next?

report has surfaced stating that Apple has rejected the Sony Reader app for allowing purchases through the app not using its in-app purchase method. Apps like the Amazon’s Kindle and Barnes and Noble Nook app could be next. Here’s an excerpt:
The company has told some applications developers, including Sony, that they can no longer sell content, like e-books, within their apps, or let customers have access to purchases they have made outside the App Store.
Apple told Sony that from now on, all in-app purchases would have to go through Apple, said Steve Haber, president of Sony’s digital reading division.
This seems like bad news for developers who allow purchasing through Safari seeing as Apple is cracking down and trying to get it’s 30%

Samsung: We actually shipped 2 million Tabs, not sold.

Samsung announced earlier this month that they sold 2 million Galaxy Tabs and many thought that wasn’t half bad for it running a non-tablet friendly OS against the iPad. Well on Friday, a poor Samsung exec had to correct the figures by saying the 2 million isn’t actual units sold, but units shipped to wireless vendors since its launch in September.
The iPad has sold over 14.8 million units since April and is holding 75% of the market. Sold being the key word.

Best Buy takes $30 off iPad 3G.

report has surfaced stating that Best Buy has taken $30 off the iPad WiFi + 3G models. It seems they may be doing some inventory clearing to prep for that dual-core 1.2 GHz “A5” powered iPad 2 that may or may not have a retina display.
Just a note to all interested that Apple’s refurbished iPad’s of the same models are $50 off.

Motorola to take jab at Apple during the Super Bowl.

Motorola has bought up some Super Bowl ad time to promote their upcoming Xoom tablet. The ad makes fun of Apple’s 1984 commercial by stating:
“2011 looks a lot like 1984. One authority. One design. One way to work.
It’s time for more choices. It’s time to explore. It’s time to live a free life.”
Apple is just taking hits left and right today. Check out the video here.

Netgear CEO says how he really feels about Apple and Steve Jobs.

Netgear CEO Patrick Lo went on a verbal assault against Apple’s business model and its CEO Steve Jobs. Here’s some of what he said:
“Ultimately a closed system just can’t go that far … If they continue to close it and let Android continue to creep up then it’s pretty difficult as I see it.”
“Eventually they’ve got to find a way to open up iTunes without giving too much away on their revenue generation model.”
“Right now the closed platform has been successful for Apple because they’ve been so far ahead as thought leaders because of Steve Jobs.”
“Steve Jobs wants to suffocate the distribution so even though he doesn’t own the content he could basically demand a ransom.”
“What’s the reason for him to trash Flash? There’s no reason other than ego.”
“Once Steve Jobs goes away, which is probably not far away, then Apple will have to make a strategic decision on whether to open up the platform.”
Some things he said isn’t anything new but that last one is a little disturbing seeing how Steve Jobs just went on a medical leave of absence.

iPad 2 to lack retina display. Will gain anti-reflective glass and iPod Touch cameras.

Ming-Chi Kuo of Concord Securities has thrown in some specifics about what he thinks will be in the iPad 2. Like Gruber and Rose, he does not believe the iPad 2 will have a retina display which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It will come equipped with anti-reflection glass to help with direct sunlight use that Amazon likes to poke fun at.
An Apple made A5 dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A9 processor will be used as well as powerful graphics courtesy of the PowerVR SGX545reported earlier.
Lastly, it will receive a front and back camera treatment like most have assumed. It will be using the iPod Touch 4G cameras.
Pretty subtle predictions seeing as many are just repeats but many users would appreciate that anti-reflective glass

Steve Wozniak says the white iPhone is coming soon

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak announced on the Engadget show today that the white iPhone 4 will be coming out soon. He said the problem with the paint has been fixed and that he plans on buying both the black and white Verizon iPhone.
If the leaks from TelcelT-Mobile GermanyChina UnicomSoftbankBest BuyVerizonAT&T, VodafoneThree, Orange, and that Japanese paint wasn’t enough. Now an Apple co-founder has confirmed it.

T-Mobile Germany has a mailing list for the white iPhone 4.

If you head over to T-Mobile Germany’s iPhone page (use Google Translate if you must), under “Further topics” you can see a dedicated page that states “Information for the iPhone 4 in White” like the above picture. When you click it, a pop-up box to put you on a mailing list comes up (also like the above picture).
Let’s do a quick recap of hints towards the white iPhone 4: China UnicomSoftbankBest BuyVerizonAT&T, VodafoneThree and Orange, and that Japanese paint.

China Unicom subtly hints at the white iPhone 4?

Above you can see clearly that China Unicom’s site is only offering the black iPhone 4 but if you look closely to the left, that’s clearly the back of the white iPhone. If you go to the site here (you might need Google Translate) you can see the 3GS option looks the same.
So if you’re keeping track we got white iPhone hints from SoftbankBest BuyVerizonAT&T, VodafoneThree and Orange, and that Japanese paint.

Softbank showing white iPhone 4 on their website.

Japanese carrier Softbank is also showing the white iPhone 4 in it’s product information about the iPhone. We know the above in a tiny pic but if you go here you can see it for yourself.
With the earlier Vodafone showing as well Best BuyVerizonAT&T, Three and Orange, and that Japanese paint, it seems Apple is going to have to say something in the near future.
