A report has surfaced about a meeting with BlackBerry PlayBook developers and they were explaining the significance of BlackBerry’s development tools. The tools are called “WebWorks” and use standard web technologies combined with ways to take advantage of the PlayBook’s hardware. How does it look? Here's a statement:
The RIM exec has now popped up a whole bunch of apps and asks the audience to spot the ones built in WebWorks? Mobilized admits it’s hard to tell which of these were built with Web tools. That said, we’re not sure if that speaks highly of the Web framework or just highlights how far behind RIM is on the app front.
The developers were asked why they are supporting RIM and they replied with how the web is crazy to bet against.
Dylan Schiemann of the JavaScript firm Dojo seems to have the most dedication in stating:
“By comparison, Apple sucks.”
BlackBerry App World has about 19,000 apps in 90 countries. Apple’s App Store has over 400,000 apps.
Recently an analyst declared the PlayBook “Dead on Arrival”.
