A report states that if you missed HP’s unveiling of the TouchPad then you might have also missed that Time Inc. announced that they will be bringing Time, Sports Illustrated and People magazines to the tablet. They will each cost either $4.99 a month or $48 a year.
The inevitable question was asked why they aren’t bringing subscriptions to Apple’s iTunes seeing as how The Daily is using Apple’s new subscription service. Chief digital officer of Time Inc., Randall Rothenberg, had this to say:
“We’re confident that at some point we’ll be able to sell subscriptions appropriately in the iTunes store. Those stores that lock us out — well, it just means the other stores are going to get more traffic, more buyers.”
Although a good point it seems you’d want to be in a market where there are actual customers. With the TouchPad not even coming out till summer, the iPad 2 will most likely already be out and will extinguish the little flame that the TouchPad has ignited.
